ABOUT MAHONING VALLEY ACADEMY
Mahoning Valley Academy offers four programs to assist our students: Life Skills, Dual Diagnosis, Intensive Self-Management and Enhanced. These programs are design to address the varied needs of students, many of whom fall on the autism spectrum. MVA addresses the academic and therapeutic needs of our students and operates from a solid foundation of Applied Behavior Analysis. Classroom sizes are limited, based on program, and range from five students per room to ten students or fewer per room.
MVA works with students ages 5 through 22. Classroom teams collaborate to address student goals using various interventions including functional communication training, social skills training, positive behavior supports, language acquisition and development and the instruction in daily living skills (ADLs). Students also enjoy music, adapted physical education and art instruction as part of their weekly schedule. Our family support office provides information on community resources for parents and assists with transferring skills from school to the home environment.
MVA staff are comprised of Certified Teachers, Behavior Health Technicians, Registered Behavior Analysts, and Instructional Assistants. Speech and occupational therapy services are provided by BHA’s own on-site professionals. Currently, MVA is operating 12 classrooms across our four programs. Our expansion plans include a modular building with additional classrooms coming in the 2023–24 school year. Programs are currently operating with a wait list.
Mahoning Valley Academy also offers Extended School Year during the summer. ESY is offered 4 days per week across six weeks from late June to early August. Like all BHA programs, we accept referrals from a student’s current school district.
